Abstract

In recent years, women are playing an significant role in economic development. In developing countries like India, agriculture continues to absorb and employ female work force but fails to give them recognition of employed/hired labour. They contribute major proportion in Gross Domestic Product through actively participating in industries, services and in agricultural  activities. Women represented 38 percent of the agricultural labour force in developing countries. It is also predicted that 45.3 percent  of the agricultural labour force consists of women. However a large number of women have remained as "invisible workers. Since there has been concern expressed regarding the gap between womens actual economic participation and public perception of it several researchers have attempted to overcome this invisibility through gendered experiential research studies for using on gender analysis and gender roles. This study investigated the role of women in farm decision making process in Thanjavur district. Convenient sampling technique was employed in collecting primary data from 150 respondents with the aid of a questionnaire and interview schedule. Both descriptive and inferential statistical tools were used in data analysis. This piece of research is highlighting the effects of  female participation and gender disparity in agriculture across various blocks in Thanjavur district .
