Qualitative Analysis of Secondary metabolites of Azadirachta indica A. Jusm.

Abstract

Azadirachta indicaA. Jusm is a medicinally important plant as per Ayurveda and Naturopathy. It belongs to Meliaceae family. The study was focused on the secondary metabolites screening of the plant. Bark and leaves were selected as parts for screening. Aqueous, methanolic and finsolvic extracts were prepared for the analysis. As the results showed that in the bark and leaves alkaloids, flavonoids, phenols, saponins, tannins, terpenoids and glycosides are present. These phytochemicals can be helpful to cure different types of diseases in plants as well as in humans. So, Azadirachta indica A Jusm is one of the important medicinal plant because of the presence of different phytochemical constituents.
