Abstract

This present study portrays the struggle of Nnu Ego womanhood and the operating factors that termed to be the reason behind it. Through the feminist lens, colonialism is often seen as a major factor in womens oppression in both colonial and colonized countries. Likewise, postcolonial theory also focuses on capitalism and how an incorrect Western sense of superiority affects self-definition, especially for people from third world countries. The majority of critics also contend on the basis of these results about the degree to which Nnu Ego plays an integral part in her repression and eventual downfall. Emecheta introduces obvious inconsistencies throughout the novel that blur the line between privilege and victimization, making it difficult to assess the character of Nnu Ego that is apparent in Lagos portrayals of polygamy and economics.
