Using Authentic Content to Enhance the English Language Skills

Abstract

This is an integration of English language and any subject matter. It focuses not only on the language but also what is being taught through the language. The shift from teacher-centered learning to student-centered learning is needful in the current scenario, it is imperative to understand the current trend and evaluate the methods of ELT. The aim is to improve the thinking skills, analytical skills, and evaluating skills of students and motivate them to learn (content and target language) efficiently. This gives learners an opportunity of self-studying, self-learning and self-evaluating. This paper emphasizes on the need for the English teachers to consider the advantages of Content Based Instruction and unfold the potential of the students by imbibing the CBI in the curriculum which will help an English Language Teacher to excel in his/her work.
