Abstract

Literature is the reflection of society. It is a manifestation of the cultural, social, political and spiritual growth of a nation. At present, global interpretation of culture has given new scope for literature.Writers write a novel on which they are impressed, or depressed. They take a particular incident or a theme to develop their novel. Chitra Banerjee Divakaruni is a well known Indian English writer who deals with the family life especially by favouring women. Her novels come up with the societal issues especially faced by women. This paper will be exploring gendered depiction in the novel Before We Visit the Goddess by the diasporic author.  It will also look into ways in which womanhood has been celebrated.
