Abstract

Kamala Das is one of the noted Indian writers whose literary works belong to the third world. She is also primarily famous for her autobiographical style of writing. In this paper, I have taken the autobiography of Kamala Das i.e. My Story to discuss the key issues which hamper the womens image and self. My Story is a bold confessional autobiography based on reality. In the autobiography, Kamala tries to create a new image of women and also vows to rectify the womens way of living. In short, she grabs the opportunity to share her personal experiences in and outside the family. She is decisive to break all societal shackles (such as alienation, victimisation, identity quest, etc.) to give women their due justice. By confessing the major issues, she represents every woman who suffer at the hands of patriarchy. Her indomitable mentality of describing micro level matters is what makes her different from other woman writing autobiography in English.
