Gender conflicts and consciousness in Amitav Ghosh’s The Hungry

Abstract

Indian society possesses complex social order because of diversities of ethnic, linguistic, religious, regional, economic, class, and caste divisions where people are also ranked according to their wealth and power. So there are some conflicts which detach to male and female to one another mutually socially and psychologically.Indian society is also permeated with gender issues as childlessness, widowhood, socio-eco deprivation of women, lower sex ratio and female feticide, sexual harassment, domestic violence, human trafficking, patriarchal system which create conflicts and lead to discrimination between man and woman; especially the complex of superiority, inferiority and inequality between male and female. There had also been the consideration in the society that woman has lack of knowledge, incapability, inability due to patriarchal society. She can only do chores, bringing up children, cooking and cleaning the house. Even in the whole world women are considered weaker
