Abstract

Modern agricultural practices, especially after the introduction of the New Agricultural Strategy in 60s of the last century, are increasingly turning out to be knowledge-based and hence gaining expertise in them is not an easy task for many of our rural farmers. Moreover, the recent developments in technology, business management, and an array of similar fields are affecting the present agricultural operations in a tremendous manner. Further, rigorous use of pesticides and insecticides are responsible for disappearance of the eco-friendly insects and brings agriculture under severe threat. A proper knowledge of use of inorganic and organic manure along with other inputs in an optimum ratio requires proper education and training. So, farmers are in need of continuance of proper education and training to make them aware of the fast moving changes taking place around the globe in the field of cultivation even in the most remote areas. Hence, proper education and training help rural farmers to incorporate the latest scientific advances and technology tools into their daily operations maintaining the sustainability of the fertility of soil. Again, in the present days with the entry of Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) in the Indian agricultural sector, many MNCs, with the motive of profit maximization, havealready forayed into the segment with dozens of agro-products and subsequently this has resulted as a threat to Indian farmers who lack professional expertise to better deal with the issue. So India does require basic education at all levels so that Indian farmers are better equipped and trained to handle the threats of globalization and also to use the labour power more intensively.
