India’s Industrial Policy: An Overview

Abstract

The research paper Indias Industrial Policy: An Overview is an attempt to historically trace the industrial policies of India so as to understand how it has helped in the economic progress of India. Till the independence of India, because of the colonial presence, we had no industries proper and after independence Nehru- Mahalanobis model worked with a socialist paradigm to create a technologically advanced industrial society. The neo-liberals make a critique of this model and emphasize the significance of liberalization of Indian economy and globalization which lead to a real growth in Indian GDP and also the growth of the IT sector. Today the Planning Commission is working towards the infrastructure development as well as an industrial policy which can look after the needs of the under-privileged sections of the society as well as sustainable development.
