Gendered Migration

Changing places and continuing differentiation

Abstract

The relationship and dynamics between the physical mobility entailed in the process of migration and gendered differences in context of space and place have been one of the focal point of many interdisciplinary approaches. The spatial process of migration can be effectively understood only in the light of all its aspects which include geographical, political, historical, cultural, social, economic as well as genderedaspects. Thus, in contemporary time, there is an insistence on undertaking a multidisciplinary approach to understand migration and gender. Importantly, migration studies have seen significant contributions from feminist geographers who have applied theories and methods of feminism for understanding geographical concepts of space, place, scale and spatial mobility underlying the process of migration. Gender and migration studies have incorporated the feminist discourse on various levels of research and understanding.
