Abstract

The research paper Gender Politics in India: An Overview tries to present the status of women and their plight from the ancient India onwards till the present say by providing a glimpse of the historical development of the womens issues and womens movement specifically in the nineteenth and twentieth century. The gendered oppression and patriarchal cultural conditioning  because of which women have suffered for centuries needs to be curbed altogether to provide women a just and sustainable world where they can realize their potential as well as attain a status for themselves. Moreover, the paper also looks at the issue of how the Indian gender politics needs to be different from western feminism so as to deal with the challenges that Indian women face.
