Abstract

Rabindra Nath Tagore, the Nobel laureate, was a nationalist by heart and yet he made a critique of the Western sense of nationalism which was violent at the core. According to him, though we have come across the notion of nation from the West, but instead of imitating the same, we forged a nation which finds expression in humanitarian, spiritual love and brotherhood and in accepting the differences of races. Indian nationalism has struck a different path from that of the West and it had set an example for the world to emulate as Indias problem is the problem of world in miniature. The paper Tagores Nationalism: An Expression of Magic of Mans Living Fingers explores Tagore ideas on nationalism through his writings and actions which states to the world that Indian nationalism is truly international in ethos and character.
