Impact of Meditation on Stress Management- A study on employees of Banking Sector in India

Abstract

Abstract-Stress is regarded as an inevitable phenomenon which has now become a universal element and every individual tends to face it in every walk of life.Stress-free Job is a myth and nothing of this sort exits.Every employee in an organization is exposed to tension, anxiety, depression, work-pressure etc. Banking sector is an emerging industry reckoned as a barometer of the financial system is not an exceptional one. Taking its toll on the physical and psychological well-being of the employees, it is not only affecting the productivity but also health,work performance, social life, the relationship with family members and functioning of an organization.Stress management is most talked about in the banking sector due to the challenges faced by its employees in terms of technological revolution, service diversification and global banking. Every employee cannot cope up with such rapid changes at the workplace which ultimately leads to job stress.It is found that maximum number of employees in banks remains in stress. A lot of research is being done on the ways usedby employees to cope with the stress generated at workplace and it is been found that Meditation- A Self-Regulation therapy yields the best results and acts as a stress buster.Meditation is one of the Five Principles of Yoga. It is the practice in which there is constant observation of the mind which helps you to achieve a clearer mind,a greater sense of purpose, strength of will, improve your concentration, and discover the wisdom and tranquillity within you. An attempt has being made through this paper to review and understand the practice of meditation as an antidoteof stress management. The study is descriptive in nature and is based on secondary data. For this purpose various books, Magazines, Journals, Newspapers, various websites of internet were referred.
