Green banking and sustainable development An Indian context

Abstract

The concept of Green Banking has now become a widely accepted practice round the globe. More and more financial institutions are now Going Green to improve their quality of service. Green Banking aims to reduce ecologicaldeprivation and achieve sustainable development. Even if these practices are very expensive, banks do their best to promote green habits anticipating its benefits. Irrespective of private and public sector, majority of the Indian banks have given great significance in promoting Green Initiatives. This study aims to understand the Green Banking, its applications in Indian Banking Sector and its relationship with sustainability. The present study is a comparative analysis between the amounts spent for Green Initiatives and the total turnover of major Indian Banks.
