ORAL MOTOR DYSFUNCTIONS
Abstract
Speech and other oral processes, such as chewing, have been correlated and contrasted with oral activities classified as quasi-speech, paraspeech, speech-like, and non-speech, both of which correlate to a degree with neuronal regulation, muscles deployed, and actions performed. Efforts to explain the relationship between these patterns are complicated by the lack of explicit and generally accepted meanings. This overview article includes descriptions and taxonomies for non-speech oral gestures and for various speech functions, both open and covert.
