Indigenous Traditional Knowledge for rice pest management practiced by different ethnic communities in Kokrajhar district of Assam (BTAD)

Abstract

Indigenous Traditional Knowledge is the knowledge and practices of indigenous and local communities that have developed over centuries and are traditionally transferred from elder to younger. The present study aims to document the indigenous knowledge for the protection of paddy from the various pest species by the farmers of different ethnic communities of Kokrajhar District (BTAD) Assam. Three communities were involved in this study which belongs to five different villages. The farmers were randomly selected from each community belonging to different villages. All total sixty farmers were interviewed by developing Questionnaire. A total number of 25 indigenous knowledge have been documented by all the three communities. Among these six practices were practiced mostly and regularly by all the three communities in all the five villages. Since, ITK practice against the pest species is effective and ecofriendly, these should be documented properly for future generation.
