Abstract

In todays world, the necessity for cycles as an alternative for current fossil fuel based transport is increasing day by day. Hence, the limitations of cycle should be addressed and overcome to increase its reliability in practical use. The general bicycle is used by a very narrow range of customer base which includes school and college students, adults for exercising purposes and professional sports. A very niche class of working class people use the bicycle for transportation to work. Also, for people travelling by multiple modes of transport, it proves expensive and tiresome for them. It becomes cumbersome to park and store cycles where space is a major constraint (especially in cities). A solution to overcome the limitations of the general bicycle is the FOLDING CYCLE. It was invented and patented in the U.S in the 1900s.

A folding bicycle is a bicycle designed to fold into a compact form, facilitating transport and storage. When folded, the bikes can be more easily carried into buildings, on public transportation (facilitating mixed-mode commuting and bicycle commuting), and more easily stored in compact living quarters or aboard a car, boat or plane.
