A STUDY OF AWARENESS ON HIV/AIDS AND STIS IN RURAL PEOPLE OF KADI AND BAHUCHRAJI BLOCKS OF MAHESANA DISTRICT, GUJARAT (INDIA)

Abstract

The present study is a part of PhD study and the aim of study was
to identify knowledge of HIV/AIDS and STIs among the rural population of two
blocks of Mahesana district, Gujarat. India has committed to eliminating parent to
child transmission of HIV and achieving 90-90-90 target by 2020 and to end AIDS
by 2030. In this regard, if people do not know proper and correct knowledge
regarding HIV/AIDS then how they will go for HIV testing and how India will get
their first 90 as by 2020? To have this answer, this present study undertaken. The
study constricted to 203 respondent (103 Female and 100 Male) from 13 villages of
two blocks. Age group of respondent was between 19 years to 52 years. 71.5% of
respondent know that HIV is preventable, among them male were 81.6% and
Female were 61.8%. 12.8% rural population having comprehensive knowledge of
HIV/AIDS. 37.1% respondent had suffered from STIs in last 12 months, among
them 24.5% were visited government hospital for treatment. National Rural Health
Mission program needs to be more intensively focus on HIV/AIDS and STIs issues
for Rural Population for stigma and discrimination free environment for PLHIV and
minimize the prevalence rate of HIV infection.
