Contribution of Low-Tech Industries in Indian Organised Manufacturing Sector

Abstract

The present study shows the importance of low-tech industries in terms of output and employment. The paper highlights the contribution of low-technology intensive segment of Indian manufacturing sector on the path of inclusive development. ASI database has been used to demonstrate the different technology intensive industrial segments (based on the OECD 2011 classification) role in employment generation. The result shows that despite the contribution of low-tech industries is decreasing in post reform period but still it constitute the largest share in manufacturing output and employment
