Impact Of Gender On Mental Health Among Youth

Abstract

Objectives: The purpose of this study was to investigate impact of gender on mental health among
youth of Kashmir. Methods: The study was carried out on a sample of 320 youth (male = 160, female
= 160) belonging to Kashmir (J&K). The Mental Health Inventory (MHI-18), developed Veit and
Ware (1983), was used to assess the mental health among the selected sample. Data on gender was
measured by using demographic data sheet. Results: Data were analysed by descriptive statistics and
Independent samples t-test using SPSS. The observations of the study showed that there is no
significant gender difference on alienation among youth. Conclusion: The findings of the present
study suggest that gender does not have a significant impact in determining the alienation among
youth of Kashmir.
