Abstract

This study was undertaken with a view to measure the effect of psychological capital on the organisational citizenship behaviour of college teachers. Altogether 302 college teachers of different affiliated and constituent colleges of L. N. Mithila University were participated in this study. A schedule for data collection was prepared for this study consisting of the following questionnaires.  A modified version of organisational citizenship behaviour scale developed by Podsakoff & MacKenzie (1994) was used for measuring five constructs of OCB namely: altruism, courtesy, sportsmanship, conscientiousness and civic virtue. The Psychological Capital Scale developed by Luthans et al. (2007) was used to measure four dimensions of psychological capital namely optimism, resilience, hope, and self-efficacy. Findings show that all dimensions of PsyCap were positively correlated with all dimensions of organisational citizenship behaviour except sportsmanship. To measure the effect of psychological capital on organisational citizenship behaviour, multiple regressions were computed. The results indicated that except resilience all three dimensions, namely, efficacy, hope and optimism were emerged as significant predictors of organisational citizenship behaviour. Findings were discussed in the context of relevant literature.
