Interplay Between Religion and Indian Society: Enormous Influence on the Status of Women

Abstract

It is not surprising when it is said that the religion plays an important role in the society. Analyzing Indian society, it develops out that the religion determines everything from the time immemorial. Most of the social institutions in Indian society are penetrated deeply by religion due to its social recognition. Almost all segments and sectors of Indian society are deeply influenced by religion. Religious convictions cannot be seen in isolation from any society.  In this research paper, an emphasis is made on the interaction and inter-relation of religion with Indian society. History depicts that Religion even determines the role, position and status of women in any culture and society. Since India is a multi-religious nation, the image and picture of women is defined according to religious texts. The discrimination against women have been seen in the directions and restrictions ordained by religious as well as social laws formulated by them. Here through the present article, efforts are made to examine the influence of different religions over the status and significance of women.
