A Study of Factors Influencing Manpower Training and Development to Improve Succession Planning in an Organisation

Abstract

In todays fast changing business environment, Any Manager, Executive or HR professional is scared to perceive that their best performers are choose to walk away from the organization and the next worst thing is to get to recognize that there are no internal candidates in the talent pool to substitute that position which lead to headhunting and timely and costly exploration. Best solution for this is to be preparing for such situations by implementing Succession Planning programs. Succession Planning programs play an essential planned means for improving succession planning of manpower in an organisation. Succession Planning programs includes training and development that acts as an effective tool for the betterment of organizations and it also help them to increase productivity. The present research aimed to analyse the factors that influence the training and development of manpower in the organisation and also analyse the impact of training and development on Succession Planning of the company. The sample for the study selected was 120 employees working in a private organisation but complete and valid responses collected came out to be 76 only. The study was primary and responses obtained through structured questionnaire. Cronbach Alpha, Descriptive statistics, Correlation and Regression applied to do analysis. The findings of the study stated that factors, namely, skills, perception, training opportunities, environment, management support positively influence the Succession Planning of the organisation.
