Sensor Based Smart Segregation Dustbin

Abstract

In this paper, an effective idea of Sensor based Smart Segregation Dustbin which is of less cost and also an user friendly solution for the segregation of domestic and industrial wastes is presented over here. Here the waste is segregated into four essential streams such as metallic, dry, plastic and wet waste by using Sensor Technology. When the refuse gets isolated into their different streams, it has higher capability of recuperation and consequently reused and recycled. Sensors are interfaced in the Arduino UNO Microcontroller Board [based on the ATmega328p] which is high performance microcontroller and it is also efficient and economical one. The proposed system makes use of moisture sensor for detecting and segregating the dry and wet wastes. An Inductive Proximity Sensor is used for the identification (detection) of metallic waste, and a Capacitive Proximity Sensor is used for the detection of plastic waste.  Buzzers are used to provide a beep sound that it acts as a indicating medium of waste detection by the sensors. It is obvious from exploratory outcomes that isolation of waste using Sensor based Smart Segregation Dustbin has been successful and it is also used to reduce the occupational hazard for the workers working with the waste. The environmental risks that occur in the waste management system can be well addressed with this technique. The main aim of this proposed framework is to segregate the waste at source level such that the waste is not get wasted but there value should be understood and can be converted to a source of energy, in a cost effective way
