Digital Competence of Teacher Educators with respect to Open Educational Resources

Abstract

Education and the processes involved in it are constantly evolving to cater to the needs of the changing society. This is an era of globalization and the dimming of the boundaries. In the present scenario a teacher educator has to completely reinvent himself in order to meet the challenges and demands of the ever changing educational sectors. A teacher has to keep himself well informed and abreast with the latest happenings in the digital world in order to cater to the diverse needs of the technology savvy students. Teacher Educators should be able to perform tasks effectively in a digital environment and to evaluate, interpret and apply new knowledge effectively.  This is a review paper that seeks to form basis for further research into the digital competence of teacher educators. The main aim of this paper is to identify the components of digital competence of teacher educators. In this paper the researcher has identified the knowledge of Open Educational Resources, how to access and use them as an essential component of digital competence. The purpose of the study was to give an overview of all the available open educational resources and their uses. This paper explores the role and importance of open educational resources as an important component of Digital Competence of teacher Educators.
