ORGANISING THE UNORGANISED SECTOR

Abstract

Our economy has always been preponderated by the unorganized sector, both in terms of number of individuals employed as well as the enterprises. The unorganized sector of the economy comprises of units like khadi and village industries, artisans, handicrafts, street sellers, footpath vendors, peddlers, chhole bhature wala, golgappa vendor, ice-cream vendor, dhabas and roadside eating points, workers in brick kilns, leather workers and the list goes on. This sector has inherent sensitivity and thus, study of this sector based on reliable pieces of information becomes very important for addressing their problems and having an optimum base for informed decision making process. Through this paper an attempt has been made to bring forth the issues of the unorganized sector, the steps taken by the government so far and the suggestive measures that may help in bringing the unorganized sector within the net of the organized sector, thus escalating the social and economic well-being of the economy.
