Abstract

Diabetes mellitus is a progressive metabolism defect that inflict certain damage to  nearly all body organs and requires many methods of treatment along with proper management of biological parameters . The medicinal drugs developed from natural plants constituents were less susceptible to side effects and less toxic effects in contrast to present  allopathic medicines. The phytochemical test on seeds of Trigonella foenum-graecum  reveals that it contain many bioactive compounds that can be known to provide added advantages in improving health and can be utilized to work as nutraceutical. Present study showed ethanoic extract of Trigonella foenum-graecum seeds can be utilized for developing significant antidiabetic, hypolipidemic and antioxidant effects. It was found in the study that Trigonella foenum-graecum seeds extract contains numerous bioactive constituents that are required for development of these effects. In present study  ethanoic extract of seeds of Trigonella foenum-graecum at a dose of 200 mg/kg b.w. produced a significant reduction in blood glucose levels by 44% in alloxan induced diabetic mice, after 28 day of treatment. In alloxan induced diabetic control group of mice, a significant loss in body weight was observed. Further Ethanoic extract of  seeds of Trigonella foenum-graecum significantly prohibited the reduction in body weight in the alloxan-treated diabetic mice. Due to the treatment of the extract, weight gain was observed in diabetic mice.
