Impact Of 360 Degree Appraisal Technique: An Empirical Analysis

Abstract

The present scenario is directed by high degree of competition due to globalization and rapidly changing market conditions. Human resources thus gained enhanced significance as a foundation of gainingcompetitive advantage. Due to the increased importance of human resources it becomes crucial to have a continuous appraisal of their performance for their satisfaction, attraction, retention and motivation. Performance appraisal is done to evaluate the performance of employees of an organization. 360 degree appraisal and feedbacktechnique is the most reliable and commonly used method to evaluate performance from all angles and taking feedback from all levels i.e. from all the members of the organization concerned with the employee like his manager, his sub-ordinates, his peers, friends, colleagues, customers etc. and also feedback from external sources is taken for evaluation.
This study aims at investigating the role of 360-degree performance appraisal and feedback system in improving employee work performance and his satisfaction level. Study is conducted in selected sector IT companies of Rajasthan, the employees of IT companies were selected as respondents for data collection. Data is collected through well-designed questionnaires and statistical analysis is performed using frequency tables and graphs and hypothesis are tested using one way ANOVA and chi square tests. The results obtained from the study shows that the 360 degree appraisal technique has been proved to be effective in evaluating employees motivation but no such improvement in his performance was found. The results of the study will be fruitful for the sample organizations for improving their performance appraisal practices and feedback system.
