Abstract

Water is an important constituent of the plant body. Plants need water to carry on different physiological processes essential to their growth and development. A great deal of water from plant body is wasted through the process of transpiration. Therefore, to compensate this loss of water, absorption of water from soil is an important phenomenon. Soil gets water mainly from two sources viz. precipitation and irrigation. The quality of groundwater plays a significant role in agricultural productivity and maintenance of soil health. The district has scarcity of both surface and ground water resources. The principal cause of this scarcity of water resources is the low amount of rainfall. The high transpiration rate and rocky surface which interrupts the process of water recharge are also some other prominent cause responsible for this problem. The rainfall is not in the hand of man but by taking some useful appropriate steps such type of problem can be reduced and sustainability of resource can be keep up.
