Abstract

Abstract
The concrete is the most important material in the field of structure and construction. The various materials are used with concrete as reinforcements to increase the properties of concrete. These properties are such as strength properties of concrete, durability, sustainability of concrete. Various fibres are used, natural fibres like jute, coconut fibre and synthetic fibres such as steel, glass fibres. In this study coconut fibre is used as reinforcement with the concrete. The addition of coconut fibres in the concrete enhances the engineering properties of concrete. Addition of coconut fibres in the concrete increases the compressive strength, flexural strength and split tensile strength of concrete. In this study the coconut fibres were added in different proportions into the conventional plain concrete. The proportion of coconut fibre were 0%, 1%, 2% , 3% by weight of cement. The compressive strength of cured concrete for 7 days and 28 days and flexural strength of cured concrete for 28 days were evaluated. The study found that the proportion which gives optimum results is 1% of coconut fibre mixed with concrete. This result shows that concrete with coconut fibres can be used in construction.
Key word: - coconut fibres, coconut fibre reinforced concrete(CFRC), compressive strength and flexural strength.
