(A Historical Overview with Special Reference to the British Period)

Abstract

The process of cultural change and progressive development was conceived in India through the transition of various dimensions of society, structure, culture, institutions, ideology, etc. As politically understood, the goals of cultural change in India could be described as "revolutionary" content and strategy. The influence of the previous structure on the transformation capacities of companies in the modernization process is analyzed for Chinese, Japanese, Indian and Islamic societies. The internal transformation of these large Asian societies has been greatly facilitated by the autonomy of social, cultural and political institutions. Cultural autonomy allowed the creation of symbols to promote and legitimize the new central institutions, while democracy encouraged the crystallization of the new organization within the social system. The relatively strong internal cohesion of family groups and larger social strata, with a certain autonomy and openness towards the center, contributed to developing the will to provide the necessary support to the new centers. When this autonomy is absent and social, cultural and political orders are closely identified, the development of viable modern structures has been severely hampered, and when families and other groups are closed, they risk undermining new institutional centers by placing undue demands on them or by conserving resources.

India is one of the oldest civilizations in the world. Indian culture is often seen as a fusion of different cultures. Throughout the history of India, its civilization has been strongly influenced by foreign cultures and customs. Initially, Indian philosophy, literature, art and architecture were influenced by foreign culture. At that time, transformation was slow. Kings, merchants and travelers played an important role in getting cultures from one place to another. Nowadays, the transition is faster and deeply affects people's lives. This document's main purpose is to illustrate the following ideas in terms of historical sequences.

  • Study the process of transformation in modern India.
  • Find the correlation of sociocultural values in modern India.
  • To consider the path of vertical and horizontal history in modern India.
  • Review the sociocultural transforming history in India.
