Abstract

Values are the guiding principles to bring positivity and cultivate capabilities for strong decision making skills, crucial for human behaviour and actions. Some of the strong and powerful values are truth, honesty, loyalty, love, peace etc. which are considered to be the basic inherent values in humans as they carry out the necessary virtues and attributes of being called human beings and society at large. Values are essential components to building ethics at an early age and undoubtedly, considered instrumental in the development of character. Ethics are the self-generated internal beliefs that decide our actions in a complex situation which is being maintained by the value systems. Therefore, ethics and values are the set measures of good and evil, which hold as well as rule an individuals behavioural orientation and his adoptions. It would not be a distortion to say that a piece of literature could be considered as a viable medium of instilling values in human beings. In the present scenario where the Indian ethics and values are at the crossroads, it is essential that we look for a means that gives value and meaning to our lives. In this context Dattanis Ek Alag Mausam brings out through his plays a plethora of values and ethics. The present paper attempts to showcase his efforts to portray the true image and behavioural patterns of the people of contemporary Indian society. The way the values and ethics are becoming challenging to follow, is brilliantly exposed and revealed by Dattani through his plays. The paper focuses on humanism and dignity which are the significant values in the society and system.
