Abstract

In this work, rapid growth of hierarchical arrayed nanorods of zinc oxide using microwave assisted
hydrothermal synthesis has been discussed. With this method, formation of highly elongated primary
nanorods and ultra-thin branched nanorods were demonstrated. Diameter of primary nanorods and
branched nanorods as low as 100 nm and 25 nm, respectively has been achieved with in 4 h.
Microwave assisted zinc oxide nanostructures were compared with that synthesised with conventional
hydrothermal methods. FESEM and x-ray diffraction analysis were conducted to investigate the
morphology and crystalline nature of the nanostructures.
