Abstract

The pellets due to being small in size can move in free manner. Due to this property of being like a
granule which is in powdered form and together they are clumped which leads to the formation of pellets
that are spherical or circular in shape. There are various process techniques that leads to production of
pellets and this procedure is called as pelletization. For oral dosage forms, the pellets have gained a wide
interest in the field of pharmacy. It allows the mixing of drug with other incompatible substances and
allows to release the drugs of different profiles. Among various techniques, the common methods that we
follow are Extrusion-spheronization, layering of solution and suspension, layering of powder, hold melt
extrusion, compaction, agitation, crypto-pelletization and pelletization by freezing method. This is then
leaded by coating and drying. The most effective technique that involves extrusion-spheronization and
hold melt extrusion is proved efficient for novel drug delivery system as pellets leads in controlled release
preparations
