Landslide Risk Mapping of Koteshwar Reservoir Rim Region

Abstract

Facet wise landslide risk mapping (LRM) of the slopes bounding Koteshwar reservoir has been
carried out using RAM matrix technique. Risk is a function of hazard potential and damage potential.
Preparation of landslide risk map includes landslide hazard zonation (LHZ) mapping and damage
potential (DP) mapping. LHZ has been prepared by following Bureau of Indian standards (BIS
14496) code. LHZ Mapping unit recorded in the BIS guideline is the facet, which is a slope unit
having uniform slope angle and slope direction. Slopes that bound the Koteshwar reservoir has been
divided into 54 facets. For each of the facet, geo-environmental factors recorded in BIS guideline
namely:lithology, structural favourability, land use land cover, hydrogeological condition, slope angle
and relative relief have been evaluated and ranked.Further, rankings were added to generate total
estimated hazard (TEHD) map which included hazard potential information for each slope facet.
Damagepotentialof loss of life/injury and loss of land has been evaluated for each facet subjectively.
Hazard potential and damage potential has been incorporated into RAM matrix to extract landslide
risk information of the slope faces bounding the Koteshwar reservoir
