Routes of Synthesis of Chalcogenide Glasses: a mini review

  • Nupur Prasad .

Abstract

Chalcogenide glasses alloys of sulfur, selenium and tellurium with arsenic, germanium
and/or lanthanides. These are infrared transmitting glasses. These glasses can be shaped their
glass transition temperature (Tg). Hence, a device constructed of Fourier Transform Infrared
Spectroscopy (FTIR) along with a device made of these glasses can be used as sensors e.g.
biosensors and chemical sensors. Hence, several synthetic techniques have been developed
for this purpose. These methods include melt quenching method, sol-gel techniques, chemical
vapour deposition and sputtering. These all processes require enough expertise.
