Indirect Approach for Enantiomeric Separation of (RS)- Metoprolol by using TLC

Abstract

(RS)-Metoprolol was isolated from commercial tablets and purified as a racemic standards.
Diaastereomeric derivatives pairs were synthesized using (S)-Ibuprofen as a chiral derivative (CDR)
reagent. Derivatization reactions were carried out under conditions of stirring at room temperature for two
hours. Reaction conditions for derivatization were optimized with respect to mole ratio of CDR and (RS)-
Metoprolol and (RS)-Ibuprofen. Further Thin layer chromatography method was done for
enantioseparation of metoprolol.
