Synthesis of transition metal ferritesthrough solution combustion method and their application in adsorption of dyes

Abstract

Transition metal ferrites, MFe2O4 (M = Co, Ni, Cu and Zn), have been synthesized through solution
combustion method, wherein, oxalic dihydrazideis used as a fuel in combustion synthesis. Solution
combustion method lead to the synthesis of single-phase ferrites as abrupt exothermic reaction facilitates
mixing of reactants on atomic scale. By using this method ferrite materials are synthesized at low
temperature and in less time. As synthesized ferrite powders have been employed for adsorption of dyes
(Congo Red and Crystal Violet) from their aqueous solutions. The results have revealed the application of
ferrite materials as potential adsorbents for waste water treatment. Because of magnetic nature of ferrite
materials, their separation after use also becomes easier.
