Propagation of optical pulse through loss less fiber

Abstract

A general overview of pulse propagation through an ideal nonlinear optical fiber has been presented.
Standard nonlinear Schrodinger equation has been used for the study. It is observed that third order
nonlinearity can perfectly counter balance the pulse broadening due to group velocity dispersion.
Hence, pulse propagates without any distortion or loss of power. The higher order solitons have been
observed to exhibit breathing characteristics.
