Abstract

In modern India, more and more women are taking up entrepreneurial activity especially in micro, small and medium scale enterprises. Women across India are displaying an attentiveness to be economically independent. There are three categories of women entrepreneurs i.e. chance, forced and created entrepreneurs. These different categories are based on how their business got started, or what are their main reasons or motivations to open their own business. An SHG is a small (12-20) group of poor people who voluntarily come together to address their poverty and other social issues. The core activity is mobilization of small savings from group members and group lending from accumulated savings as well as bank loans. It is for this reason that SHGs are also known as micro finance or microcredit institutions. Based on these facts, this study aims to assess the overall performance of micro enterprises in Chidambaram Block, Cuddalore District
