Implications of Modern Methods in Agriculture- A Case Study of Impact of Crop Diversification on Farmer’s Socio-Economic Development in Selected Villages of Thiruvallur District

Abstract

Cropping intensity and cropping changes are the integral components of modern method of cultivation as the water intensive crops have replaced with the lesser water intensive crops in rain fed areas to sustain the agrarian activities across India. In Tamil Nadu water scarcity found to be the important lacuna of agricultural development. So, modern cultivating practice   became   imperative to ensure sustain    activities within   limited water resources. Crop diversification      in Tamil Nadu during   last couple of  decades have been significant. The present study examined the perceptions of the cultivators   located in Thirivallur district on the impact of crop diversification and the changes in their socio-economic development accentuated by cropping pattern changes. The study conducted with 350 samples across Thiruvallur district. The study found that shift in  Cropping pattern has delivered adequate changes in their income and also enrich their socio-economic development.
