Performance evaluation of Water pump system through Markov Process and Reliability approach

Abstract

The present paper investigates a water pump system (WPS), which is used in almost all the industry for
feeding the requirement of water, by taking its different components for analyzing its performance. The
components of WPS are arranged in a mixed configuration and hence the failure of a component of WPS
takes it sometime in failed state or in degraded state. A mathematical model is established on the basis of
Markov process and various failures and repair of the components of the WPS which may occurs during
its functioning. Reliability, availability and MTTF are calculated for analyzing the performance of the
considered system. Critical components of WPS are identified through sensitivity analysis.
