A Brief Review on Green Tea and its Effect on Weight Management

Abstract

Green tea among other types of tea is the most popular beverage widely acclaimed for its
health benefits. Most of the benefits associated with green tea is due to its polyphenolic contents more
specifically catechins where epigallocatechin-3-gallate (EGCG) was found to be most effective and
widely studied antioxidant compound. This review outlines the history of tea, its chemistry and the
health benefits associated with it more specifically with respect to weight loss.
