Effect of Depression, Gender and Faculty on Academic Achievement of students

Abstract

The present study was carried out to find out the effect of Depression, Gender and Faculty on Academic Achievement of adolescentstudents. The study was conducted on a sample of 450 students (225 boys & 225 girls) of higher secondary students of Kanpur. The data were analyzed with the help of Three way ANOVA followed by t- test. The result of study revealed that Academic Achievement of Science Faculty Students was found to be the highest and Arts Faculty students the lowest.Academic Achievement of Females was found to be significantly superior to Males.Academic Achievement of students belonging to different Depression levels was to be found to be similar.The Female students belonging to Science and Commerce Faculty were found to have higher Academic Achievement in comparison to Male students belonging to same Faculty. In case of Arts Faculty the Academic Achievement of Male students was found higher than their counterpart Female students. Further both Males and Females of Science Faculty had higher Academic Achievement in comparison to Arts and Commerce Faculty students.Academic Achievement of Arts, Science and Commerce students belonging to different levels of Depression were found to be similar.Female students belonging to Moderate and Low Depression levels were found to have higher Academic Achievement in comparison to Male students belonging to same levels of Depression. In case of High Depression level the Academic Achievement of Male students was found to be slightly higher than their counterpart Female students.Academic Achievement of Male and Female students belonging to different Faculties & level of Depression were found to be similar.
