COMPREHENDING CLOUD COMPUTING FOR REALIZING ENERGY EFFICIENCY
Cloud computing has emerged as an accomplishment for the long-dreamt fantasy concerning provisioning and delivery of Information Technology (IT) as a utility. It has significantly transformed and embellished the deliverance of technology and innovations in Information and Communication Technology (ICT) sector. Although the ICT industry has progressed stupendously but this development is being persistently daunted by the high levels of carbon discharges to the environment. The world, today, is experiencing significant energy crisis and related higher vitality costs. Cloud computing has risen as a guarantee to beat the energy predicaments and wastage issues with the support multicore architectures. The multi-core architectures are being predominantly used in the current computing scenario owing to their better performance, low energy consuming and dissipation qualities. Cloud computing, thus, has surfaced as energy efficiency enabling technology that helps in diminishing the CO2 discharges while sustaining system consistency. This paper reflects the significance of energy efficiency in cloud, while prominently focusing on the role of multicore architectures, virtualization techniques and consolidation concepts for achieving energy efficient clouds. It concludes with a discussion on various challenges that can arise while accomplishing energy efficient Cloud computing.
