Abstract

Y3+-Gd3+ substituted M-type hex ferrites with the chemical formula SrGdxYyFe12-x-yO19 (x = y = 0.5) were prepared by using sol-gel process. The effect of calcination and dopant concentration on structural and magnetic properties were analyzed by using X-ray diffraction (XRD), fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR) and vibrating sample magnetometer (VSM). Thermal investigation has been done with the help of thermogravimetric (TG/DTG) technique. TG-curve indicates the decomposition and crystallization in step with removal of organic residues. The structural analysis confirms the formation in a single domain size range in which stretching vibration of metal-oxygen bond occurred at characteristic absorption peak position enable the identification of hex phase. The effects of Y3+-Gd3+ on magnetic properties were investigated with the help of VSM.
