AODV-E: AN ENHANCED AODV ROUTING PROTOCOL

Abstract

This paper proposes a routing approach which is the extension of Ad-hoc On-Demand Distance Vector (AODV) routing protocol for wireless mesh networks. The proposed approach is best suited for the networks where the nodes have higher mobility. Proactive routing techniques impose higher network overhead as compared to reactive approach. AODV is a standard reactive routing protocols for the small networks. The proposed approach has modified the AODV approach by adding a route maintenance phase to it. We have implemented our approach in MATLAB and simulated different WMN scenarios. We have compared the proposed Ad-hoc On-Demand distance vector - enhanced (AODV-E) approach with AODV, ACO and BAT approaches. The results show that the AODV-E has a superior performance as compared to other three approaches.
