OIL WELL PACK OFF DETECTION METHOD
The basic objective of this paper is to provide a value added & reliable service to Petroleum companies by providing such display & alert so that it will help them to predict the condition of borehole pack off or drill string stocking to take a further decision to Pull out of Hole (POOH). The intended audience of this document contains a method of ringing alarm at the time or before the poor whole cleaning and pipe sticking during rotary drilling operation. Whole pack off alert is dependent on real time drilling operations data available. This alert will provide the best solution to the drilling contractor, and oil and gas companies. The proposed logic promises to avoid poor whole cleaning. This study also focused on prevention of the poor hole cleaning problems like lost circulation, stuck pipe, Hole pack-off. During the successful drilling operation, it is required to clean the hole and to transport the drill cutting from the wellbore to the surface. If drill cuttings settle into the borehole, then gradually it packs around the drill string, this can cause a high risk. This phenomenon is called as whole pack off and may result in a stuck drill string incident. In such type of incident, a worst-case is that the drill string may break, which can be resulted in the loss of the bottom hole... In such an incident, most part of the burial will be blocked by the lost drill pipe. For the remedial operation, it will be required to either sidetrack or to perform the fishing operations to clear the borehole, which is very time-consuming.
