ROLE OF REFORM MOVEMENTS IN KASHMIR DURING THE DOGRA PERIOD (1846-1947)

Abstract

In this paper the aim is to highlight the impact of reform movements in Kashmir and how these movements were able to eradicate social evils from both the communities of Hindus and Muslims as well as helped in bringing political consciousness against the Dogras policymakers. The twentieth century witnessed a eradication of these evils which was present in society at that time on one hand and impact of colonial intervention on the other hand. The fundamental aim of these socio-religious reform movements was to acquaint the Muslims about the reasons of their stagnation that had kept them in a state of backwardness for centuries.
