Abstract

This research paper aims to study the growing politicization and increasing anti-India forces in Indian Educational Institutions. The previous controversies in University of Hyderabad, Jawaharlal Nehru National University and National Institute of Technology Srinagar have been widely discussed. In the present study, the suicide of RohithVemula at University of Hyderabad, the issue of protests by a Group of students at JNU against the capital punishment of Afzal Guru and the controversy created during cricket match when anti India slogans were raised by some Kashmiri students, is talked about. The recent incident in Jammu University is also significant where Prof. MohammadTajudinhas been suspended from his position by the University Administration keeping in view the growing pressure from some student organization. Although, RohithVemula case has brought caste politics at University level, on the other hand the issue of NIT Srinagar and JNU has brought the case of anti nationalism into limelight. The case of Jammu University highlighted the issue of patriotism when during class lecture some students recorded video of Prof.Tajudin regarding Bhagat Singh and British Indian Governments anti terrorism laws. If the political parties then had decided to stay away from these matters, the situation would have been different. While for some political parties these cases may be the good examples of leadership qualities but for some educationalist these may be the cases of rising anti-India activities supported by some selfish political interests. But the question is, whether student politics should be party less or not and what should be the level of restrictions on the freedom of thought and expression of students?
